# Azure: Configuring the Virtual Platform

## Changing the CPU Count via Azure Portal

On the virtual platform, you can change the number of CPU processors that the Nasuni Edge Appliance uses.

#### Considerations

- On Microsoft Azure, you do not directly change the number of CPU processors. Instead, you change the VM size, which includes the number of CPU processors.
- Before changing the number of CPU processors, you must use the NMC (**Filers → Shutdown & Reboot**) or NEA UI (**Power → Shutdown Filer**) to gracefully shut down the NEA.
- If the virtual machine is currently running, changing its size causes it to restart.

### Azure Portal platform

To change the number of CPU processors on the Azure Portal platform, follow these steps:

1. Open the [Azure Portal](https://portal.azure.com/).
2. Search for and click **Virtual machines**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image-56GSEOCW.png)
3. From the list of **Virtual machines**, choose the specific virtual machine you want to modify. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image-A8I69Z92.png)
4. In the left-hand navigation menu, find the **Availability + scale** or **Settings** section and click **Size**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image-3DWYSDCX.png)
5. From the list of available **VM Sizes**, select a new VM size that matches your target vCPU count. For virtual machine recommendations, see [Azure Appendix C: Azure virtual machine recommendations](/v1/docs/azure-appendix-c-azure-virtual-machine-recommendations). ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image-1MXW56DW.png)
6. Click **Resize** at the bottom of the page.

The VM restarts and applies the new configuration.
