# File Management

With the **Shares** page, users can view and manage the directories and files for their CIFS (SMB) shares.

This section describes listing, creating, and deleting directories. See other sections for [uploading](/v1/docs/uploading-files), [downloading](/v1/docs/downloading-files-and-folders) and [sharing](/v1/docs/sharing-files) files.

## Listing shares

After logging into Web Access, select **Shares** on the left navigation bar to see the Nasuni file shares you have access to.

You only see shares that you have permission to view and that your administrator has enabled for Web Access.

## Opening Directories and Folders

To open a share or directory, click the name of that share or directory. The contents appear as a list.

The path to the directory appears above the list on the left. To navigate to a higher point in the directory hierarchy, click one of the directory names in the path.

### Hidden files

Files and folders that are marked as hidden are not shown by default. Items flagged as hidden are typically temporary or system-related data, and are not intended to be managed by users.

To show hidden files and folders, click the **Settings** button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(13).png) on the left. A dialog box appears. To show hidden items, select **Yes**, then click **Save**.

Hidden files is a browser-specific setting that persists across sessions.

### Sorting a directory

To sort the display, click the **Sort** button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(7).png) in the upper right, then select **Type**, **Name**, **Size**, or **Modified** from the list.

### Viewing item details

To view details of an item, select the item, then click the **View Details** button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(11).png) at the upper right of the page.

The name of the item appears, along with the date it was last modified and an indication of the number of shared links the user has created to that item.

To view other versions of the item, if available, click **Versions**. For more information, see [Previous Versions](/v1/docs/previous-versions-1).

### Creating internal links

To create an internal link URL to a file or folder in Web Access, select the file or folder, then click the **Get internal link** button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(9).png) above the list on the right. For more information, see [Permalinks](/v1/docs/permalinks).

## Creating folders

To create a folder inside this folder, click the **Add Folder** button located above the list on the right. Enter a name for the new folder.

## Delete files

To delete a file, select the item, then click the Delete button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(12).png) in the upper-right corner. A dialog box appears. Click **Delete** to delete the item.

## Deleting directories

To delete a directory, select the item, then click the Delete button ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/image(12).png) in the upper-right corner. A dialog box appears. Click **Delete** to delete the item.

> ***Note****: A directory must be empty in order to be deleted.*

If a directory cannot be deleted because it contains items, but the directory appears empty, it might include hidden or inaccessible items. To see hidden items enable [Hidden Files](/v1/docs/file-management-1#hidden-files).
