# Hyper-V: Uninstalling a Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC

## Overview of Uninstalling Nasuni from Hyper-V

This chapter explains how to uninstall a Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC from your supported platform. You might need to uninstall a Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC if you are upgrading the system hardware.

## Delete the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC VM from Hyper-V

> *Caution: When you uninstall a Nasuni Edge Appliance, all data in the cache is deleted.*

> [!WARNING]
> *Caution: Always shut down the NEA or NMC before shutting down the VM.*

> [!WARNING]
> *Caution: Do not reboot or power off the appliance during the first boot. After the first boot completes, you may reboot or power off the appliance as needed.*

To uninstall a Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC on a Microsoft Hyper-V platform:

1. Shut down the Nasuni Edge Appliance from your Web browser. See the section entitled “Shutting Down and Rebooting Nasuni Edge Appliance” in the [Nasuni Edge Appliance Administration Guide](https://docs.nasuni.com/docs/nasuni-edge-administration) for instructions.

In particular, perform the following steps:
  - Disconnect remote volumes.
  - Delete owned volumes.
2. Select the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC under **Virtual Machines**.
3. Right-click on the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC and select **Turn off** from the drop-down menu.
4. Right-click on the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC and select **Delete** from the drop-down menu. The virtual machine instance is deleted from the view.

> *Note: It might be necessary to manually delete the .*`vhd` *or .*`vhdx` *files from the disk.*
