        • Nasuni Optimized Global Locking (good performance, lowest protocol compatibility, but recommended for most people using Global Locking)

        • Advanced Global Locking (lower performance - not recommended unless needed for specific applications, highest global locking compatibility)

When Global Locking is enabled for a folder, the "Nasuni Optimized Global Locking" mode is the default. When upgrading from versions prior to 6.3, you will also be set to that level. The only application known to need advanced global locking support is Autodesk's Revit application, when used with Multisite in worksharing mode. If you are using this application with global locking, then please enable the advanced global locking setting on the folder.

  • UI elements may render differently between browsers.

  • Audit logging may not resolve all group names from Active Directory trusted domains.

  • Certain interfaces (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI) are intended to be accessible only within trusted networks for security reasons.

  • Enabling direct snapshot access for a CIFS share prevents users from deleting directories within that share and may cause unwanted behavior for clients with offline folders or other synchronization services in place.

  • Domain local groups will not give users access to CIFS volumes as expected when Filer is joined to a Windows Server 2012 domain controller with Resource SID compression enabled.

  • Mixing case-sensitive and case-insensitive shares on the same directory path can lead to confusing behavior.

  • On CIFS volumes, the traverse permission will not allow directory navigation as expected when share case sensitivity is turned off.

  • Windows Azure will restart virtual machines after shutting down the Nasuni Filer or NMC from the UI. To shut down a machine and keep it shut down, please use PowerShell or the Windows Azure management console.

  • VMware Tools show as Running (Not installed) on Filer and NMC virtual machines hosted on vSphere 5.5, even though they are installed and running as expected.

  • Audit events for NFS volume hard links refer to the path of the first hard link, not the hard link acted upon.

  • Broken symlinks cannot be restored from volume snapshots.

  • With hard links, auditing may audit actions on any one of the names linking to the same file.

  • For both Filer and NMC, Internet Explorer 9 and later are supported. IE8 and lower are no longer supported.

  • Nasuni's SMB interface does not support Alternate Data Streams (ADS)/Forks. If you have legacy data from OSX that needs to be migrated please contact Nasuni Customer Support.

  • If using OSX to access the Filer via CIFS/SMB we recommend OSX Mavericks (10.9) (or later) to avoid odd client behavior.

  • The Data Migration Service does not maintain sparseness of sparse files when migrated.

  • There is a known issue with earlier versions of Internet Explorer 11 that can cause the browser to crash when using the UI in certain situations. If this occurs, install any available Windows security updates or update to the latest version of Internet Explorer.

Nasuni Filer 6.0.3

Released Tuesday, July 15th, 2014

The Nasuni Service 6.0 release adds several key new capabilities building on previous releases such as Nasuni's multi-site capabilities, introduced over 3 years ago in version 3.0, and the Nasuni Management Console introduced in our 5.0 release.

This release takes mobile user access to data to the next level by introducing Nasuni Desktop. Nasuni Mobile was introduced in our 4.0 release allowing phone and tablet users access to data on the go, now those capabilities are extended to mobile computer users with an intuitive, easy to use desktop integrated experience.

Nasuni already has many protocols for accessing data via the Filers, including CIFS, SMBv1/v2, NFSv3, iSCSI, and HTTPS/REST. Our 6.0 release builds on these by adding FTP/SFTP. Providing even greater flexibility and access, with 6.0 Nasuni now enables access to same data/volume via multiple protocols simultaneously.

Global locking has also been added in this release to allow users to easily collaborate when accessing data via different filers. To control bandwidth and filer load, global locking can be configured at a folder level. If needed, locks can be broken via the NMC or Filer management interface. Finally, in the unlikely event of a conflict, Nasuni's advanced conflict management and UniFS® global file system technology protect users from the possibility of any data loss.

In addition to the major enhancements above, there are many other fixes and improvements in Nasuni's 6.0 release.

Note: If a Nasuni Filer is joined to a Nasuni Management Console, update the Nasuni Management Console software before updating the Nasuni Filer software.

We add new features and components regularly. Your Nasuni Filer automatically detects these updates and prompts you to install them. You may choose to have these updates applied automatically or manually. If you need help, please visit our support center.

Your feedback is very important to us, because it drives additional features and capabilities. If you want to share your thoughts, please call us at +1.800.208.3418, or email us at feedback@nasuni.com.

    • Both the Nasuni Filer and the Nasuni Management Console may now be launched on the Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure compute platforms. For details, please read the Getting Started Guides for each of those platforms.

    • Nasuni now provides a VSS Hardware Provider for point-in-time consistent snapshots on iSCSI volumes. Visit the Nasuni.com downloads page to download the VSS Hardware Provider, if you need it.

    • All new CIFS shares default to "Case Insensitive" for maximum compatibility.

    • More information is now available on existing Data Migrations.

    • CIFS status page now has sortable columns in the Nasuni Filer UI.

    • "Hardware Status" has been renamed to "Platform Status" and is available on all platforms (HW, local VM, and cloud VM)

    • Quota reports may now be sent even if there are no violations, allowing for lightweight capacity reporting use.

    • New NMC capabilities:

      • Volume snapshots may now be cancelled.

      • General CIFS settings may now be set.

      • CIFS/NFS/iSCSI statuses are now available.

      • Percentage of cache used is now available.

  • Reliability:

    • When changing general CIFS settings, the administrator is warned of possible client disruption.

    • When deleting shares, the UI now confirms the administrator wants to delete the share and provides the share name that will be deleted.

    • Incomplete snapshots on iSCSI and unshared volumes are no longer made available for restores.

  • Security:

    • File System Auditing

      • Nasuni now supports native filesystem auditing on NAS volumes.

      • Administrators can configure which filesystem(s) to audit, the types of events to audit, and include or exclude various paths and files.

      • Audit information is stored in the filesystem itself, with the ability to store an unlimited amount of audit information for an indefinite period.

      • The audit information is available in a simple CSV format for ease of import into your database of choice.

    • iSCSI volumes are now properly identified as Nasuni-provided iSCSI volumes in the SCSI inquiry data.

    • Add protection against Flush+Reload side-channel attack on virtual platforms.

  • Performance:

    • iSCSI volume performance has been improved by up to 3x. Caution - existing iSCSI volumes will not receive the full benefit.

    • SMBv2 is the default protocol on CIFS volumes, increasing performance.

    • Quality of Service (QoS) (bandwidth limitations) may now be set on inbound traffic in addition to outbound traffic.

    • QoS values may now be entered directly to match your specific needs.

    • Cache metadata is now more effectively evicted from cache.

In addition to the enhancements above, this release includes many other smaller enhancements and bug fixes.

Known issues and limitations

  • Quotas created on volumes with remote access enabled may be removed if the volume is shared with a pre-5.0 Nasuni Filer

  • UI elements may render differently between browsers.

  • Audit logging may not resolve all group names from Active Directory trusted domains.

  • Certain interfaces (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI) are intended to be accessible only within trusted networks.

  • Enabling direct snapshot access for a CIFS share prevents users from deleting directories within that share and may cause unwanted behavior for clients with offline folders or other synchronization services in place.

  • Mixing case-sensitive and case-insensitive shares on the same directory path can lead to confusing behavior.

  • Windows Azure will restart machines after shutting down the Nasuni Filer or NMC from the UI. To shut down a machine and keep it shut down, please use PowerShell or the Windows Azure management console.
