# NEA Recovery Quick Start Guide

#

This document outlines the steps necessary to perform a Recovery for a Nasuni Edge Appliance. The optional Side Load feature transfers data directly from the source cache to the new cache. For assistance, contact Nasuni Technical Support ([www.nasuni.com/support](http://www.nasuni.com/support)).

All documentation, including a full [Recovery Guide](/v1/docs/nasuni-edge-appliance-recovery-guide), is listed in [Documentation Guide](/v1/docs/welcome-page).

## If this is a disaster

**If this is a disaster**, and not a planned transition, skip down to the “**Perform the Recovery process**” step.

## If not a disaster

Otherwise, if this is a planned transition, perform the following steps:

- Before beginning the Recovery procedure, verify the following:
  - The source or old Nasuni Edge Appliance is installed and properly configured on your network.
  - Data has been added to a volume in the source or old Nasuni Edge Appliance.
  - At least one snapshot has been successfully completed on a volume with data.
  - If performing the Side Load procedure, the source Nasuni Edge Appliance must be running and not yet decommissioned.
- Remove the Nasuni Edge Appliance from control of the Nasuni Management Console (NMC): On NEA: Click **Services**→ **Nasuni Management Console**→ **disabled**→ **Save**.
- On source Nasuni Edge Appliance, download any generated encryption keys: Click **Configuration**→ **Encryption Keys**→ **Download Generated Keys**. Save file with a .pgp extension. Also obtain encryption keys for NMC. If you escrowed keys with Nasuni, contact Nasuni Technical Support.
- On NEA: Click **Status**→ **Subscription Status**. Note the Account Name and the Serial Number.
- If performing a Side Load, ***DO NOT*** shut down the Nasuni Edge Appliance.

**If NOT performing a Side Load procedure**, shut down the original Nasuni Edge Appliance:

- Perform snapshots on all volumes: On NEA: **Volumes**→ select volume → “**Take snapshot now**”. Wait until **New Data in Cache**chart on **Home**page shows no unprotected data.
- On NEA: Click **Power ![](https://cdn.document360.io/2adf6ce2-c120-4520-b135-0fc4463ddde3/Images/Documentation/nea-recovery-quick-start-guide-image-64yz4i06.png)** on navigation bar at top of page. Enter **Username**and **Password**. Select **Perform snapshot before shutting down**→ **Shutdown**.

## **Perform the Recovery process**

- Download and install Nasuni Edge Appliance software on new Nasuni Edge Appliance platform.
- Obtain the Serial Number and Authorization Code from [portal.nasuni.com](https://portal.nasuni.com/).
- Open a Web browser and enter the IP address of the new or destination Nasuni Edge Appliance.
- Enter the Network Parameters for this Nasuni Edge Appliance.
- Rejoin any previously joined Active Directory or LDAP domains.
- If performing a Side Load procedure, access the console for the *source* Nasuni Edge Appliance. Press **Enter**to access the **Service**menu. The default username is service, and the default password is service. At the prompt, enter preparedr. After it finishes, enter quit.
- Enter the Serial Number and Authorization Code.
- In the **Confirmation**text box, enter “Perform Disaster Recovery”. Click **Continue**.
- If you escrowed encryption keys with Nasuni, and you have either an escrow passphrase or a recovery key, select **Yes**in the Wizard. If you have your keys ready to upload, select **No**.

## **Side Load**

- To start the Side Load process:

On the new Nasuni Edge Appliance, click **Services**→ **Side Load**. Enter **Host Address**, **Username**, **Password**. Click **Connect and Start**.
- When Side Load completes, **Complete**label appears. Record information to retain. Click **Done**.
