NetApp® StorageGRID® is a software-defined object storage solution for large data stores. StorageGRID uses intelligent policy-driven data management to move data between on-premises and public cloud storage to optimize its availability, protection, performance, and cost.
Nasuni enables customers to leverage NetApp StorageGRID for high-performance file storage. By using Nasuni’s object storage-based global file system with NetApp StorageGRID, customers can modernize legacy NAS and file server infrastructure and achieve new levels of data protection and cross-office file collaboration.
Configuration
Nasuni supports NetApp StorageGRID using the Nasuni Connector for Amazon S3.
Tip: StorageGRID’s default HTTPS port is 8082, which Nasuni supports. If using an HTTPS port other than the default port 443, specify the port at the end of the hostname URL.
Tip: With on-premises object storage, if you are using an HTTPS proxy, consider including the hostnames of the target endpoint for the on-premises object storage in the Do Not Proxy specification. Otherwise, the proxy server might not allow data traffic or might slow down data traffic.
Tip: With on-premises object storage, create two DNS entries (“A” records) for the target endpoint of the on-premises object storage that point to the desired IP address, in this form:
hostname.your.domain
*.hostname.your.domain
This is necessary so that the Nasuni Edge Appliance can connect to the volumes using, for example, bucketname.hostname.your.domain.
Note: NetApp StorageGRID must be configured to accept connections that use S3 endpoint domain names in S3 virtual hosted-style requests (such as bucket.my.company.com). For details, see https://docs.netapp.com/sgws-113/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.netapp.doc.sg-s3%2FGUID-91153FD2-CB4B-4A08-89BB-98BEDFD70438.html.
To configure Nasuni for NetApp StorageGRID, follow these steps:
Ensure that an HTTPS port is open between the Nasuni Edge Appliance and the object storage solution. StorageGRID’s default HTTPS port is 8082, which Nasuni supports. Nasuni's default HTTPS port is 443.
Click Configuration. On NMC, click Account.
Select Cloud Credentials.
Click Add Amazon S3 Credentials.
Alternatively, click Add New Credentials, then select Amazon S3 from the drop-down menu.Enter the following information from the NetApp StorageGRID cluster:
Name: A name for this set of credentials, which is used for display purposes, such as ObjectStorageCluster1.
Access Key ID: The bucket or container user name for authentication.
Secret Access Key: The bucket or container user password for authentication.
Hostname: The hostname for the location of the object storage solution. If using an HTTPS port other than the default port 443, specify the port at the end of the hostname URL.
Verify SSL Certificates: Select this checkbox only if the endpoint has a public certificate.
Filers (on NMC only): The target Nasuni Edge Appliance(s).Click Save Credentials.
At this point, you can begin adding volumes to the Nasuni Edge Appliance.
Adding volumes
To add volumes with NetApp StorageGRID, follow these steps:
Click Volumes, then click Add New Volume. The Add New Volume page appears.
Enter the following information for the new volume:
Name: Enter a human-readable name for the volume.
Cloud Provider: Select Amazon S3.
Credentials: Select the Cloud Credentials that you defined in step 5 for this volume, such as ObjectStorageCluster1.
Region: Use the default setting: Other (S3 Compatible).
For the remaining options, select what is appropriate for this volume.Click Save.
This creates a new volume with NetApp StorageGRID.
