# Nutanix: Controlling the Nasuni Edge Appliance

### Overview

Virtual platforms offer a variety of configuration options to improve the performance and behavior of your Nasuni Edge Appliance. This section presents procedures for performing these configurations. Because these configurations depend on third-party virtual platforms, you should follow the procedures for your specific virtual platform.

> [!TIP]
> *Tip: Before moving a Nutanix cluster, power down the Edge Appliance.*

> [!WARNING]
> *Caution: Do not reboot or power off the appliance during the first boot. After the first boot completes, you may reboot or power off the appliance as needed.*

### Shutting down the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC

To shut down the Nasuni Edge Appliance, use the Web UI as described in chapter 3 of the [Edge](https://b.link/Nasuni_Edge_Appliance_Administration_Guide) [Appliance Administration Guide](https://docs.nasuni.com/docs/nasuni-edge-administration). To shut down the NMC, use the NMC as described in chapter 5 of [NMC Guide](https://docs.nasuni.com/docs/nasuni-management-console).

> [!WARNING]
> *Caution: Always shut down the NEA or NMC before shutting down the VM.*

> [!WARNING]
> *Caution: Do not reboot or power off the appliance during the first boot. After the first boot completes, you may reboot or power off the appliance as needed.*

### Shutting down the virtual machine

As an alternative to shutting down the Nasuni Edge Appliance or NMC as described above, you can perform a “graceful” or “soft” shutdown of the virtual machine.

To shut down the Nasuni Edge Appliance on the Nutanix platform using the Prism Web Console, follow these steps:

1. On the **Main Menu**, click **Explore**at the top left. The **Entities**list appears on the left.
2. In the **Entities**list on the left, click **VMs**. A list of VMs appears.
3. From the list of VMs, select the Nasuni Edge Appliance virtual machine.
4. From the **Actions**drop-down menu, select **Power Off**. The **Power off VM**dialog box appears.
5. Select **Guest Shutdown**, then click **Submit**.

The virtual machine shuts down.
