File IQ Storage Retention Configuration

Prev Next

The following File IQ feature is only available on the Premium version of File IQ.

Introduction

The Retention Configuration page within Nasuni File IQ offers the following functions:

  • It displays a table showing the current configuration of the File IQ appliance, including its CPU, memory, and disk sizing, alongside the recommended appliance size.

  • It allows users to adjust the retention period for raw and aggregated audit events stored in the Nasuni File IQ database, enabling them to increase or decrease the configuration as needed.

Nasuni File IQ Appliance Sizing

Proper sizing of the File IQ Appliance is essential for ensuring efficient storage retention. The top section of the Retention Configuration page offers an overview of the current configuration for the Nasuni File IQ appliance, outlines the required setup for optimal performance, and provides any recommended actions.

Important: Changing the event retention settings can significantly affect an appliance's disk size requirements.

Table Columns

The Nasuni File IQ Appliance Sizing table displays the following appliance information:

Configured: To ensure the Nasuni File IQ appliance operates correctly, it must meet certain minimum requirements for CPU cores, system memory, and disk capacity. The Configured column displays the current configuration of the File IQ appliance. If the current configuration falls below these requirements, the cell is highlighted with a red background, indicating that immediate action is required to bring the appliance into compliance.

Note: The Event Retention settings saved on this page influence the File IQ DB Disk sizing requirements. Changes to retention settings might alter this value.

Sizing Requirements: The Sizing Requirements column outlines the minimum specifications for the File IQ appliance. These specifications are determined dynamically based on the volumes being scanned and the events received by the Nasuni File IQ appliance. The necessary event retention is included in the calculation to determine the size of the File IQ database disk.

Recommendation: The Recommendation column provides context for the Configured column when minimum requirements are not met. This text prompts action to upgrade the VM or disk size to the specifications in the Sizing Requirements column.

Note: A warning might not appear if disk space or memory is slightly below the required values, accounting for the virtual machine (VM) overhead. For instance, in the screenshot above, 10.2 does not appear in red, even though it falls short of the 10.4 requirement.

Nasuni File IQ Retention Configuration

The following fields determine how long raw and aggregated events are retained in the Nasuni IQ system.

Warning: LOWERING THE EVENT RETENTION SETTINGS MIGHT LEAD TO A LOSS OF DATA.

Fields

Raw Events: Specify the number of days to retain raw events. This setting determines the retention of the data displayed on the Inspector dashboard. This is a required field with a default value of 7 days. Set the retention period between a minimum of 7 days and a maximum of 21 days.

Aggregated Events: Specify the number of days to retain aggregated events. This setting affects most other Activity and Audit Event dashboards. This field is also required, with a default value of 90 days. Set the retention period between a minimum of 32 days and a maximum of 365 days.

Current File IQ DB Size: Displays the current size of the Nasuni File IQ database. This information is read-only.

Current File IQ DB Disk: Displays the current disk size of the Nasuni File IQ database. This information is also read-only.

Saving the Storage Retention Configuration

To save the storage retention configuration, follow these steps:

Note: It is highly recommended to implement all system recommendations issued up to this point in your environment as soon as possible.

  4. Click Save to apply the changes.

  5. If you shorten the retention period, a warning appears, indicating that data might be deleted as a result. Enter the Confirmation Phrase and click Confirm to proceed.

  6. A notification appears indicating the disk size needed for the new retention period selected. Click Confirm to continue.

Reset to Default

To reset the storage retention configuration to its default setting, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Nasuni File IQ Retention Configuration page.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the form and click Reset to Default.
