#240925 Reminder 2

December 2024

Third Notice and Update to Nasuni Service Advisory #240925

Preparing for Nasuni File Data Platform version 10.0

Nasuni is excited to announce that our File Data Platform version 10.0 is just around the corner, with a planned release in Q1 2025. As we gear up for this major release, we want to ensure that your environment is fully prepared for a seamless update experience.

Below are important steps to review before updating. Please note that some of these considerations may not apply to all customers. However, if they do apply to your environment, they must be completed prior to updating to version 10.0.

Each of these requirements is designed to make sure you’re ready to enjoy the new features and improvements that come with version 10.0. All Nasuni appliances (Nasuni Edge Appliance - NEA, Nasuni Management Console - NMC, and Nasuni File IQ - NFIQ) are subject to these requirements. Any appliances that do not meet these requirements cannot update to NEA/NFIQ version 10.0 or NMC version 25.1.

Note: The upcoming NMC version is now 25.1 (previously communicated as 24.2). This change does not affect any of the preparation steps or features.

What You Need to Know Before Updating

1. Update Your Firewall Settings

Nasuni is adding new hostnames to enhance Advanced Global File Locking (GFL) functionality with Write Oplock support, as well as new Nasuni Portal API support. To ensure uninterrupted service, please update your firewall or network security settings to allow traffic on port 443 (HTTPS) for the following hostnames:

  • Write Oplock Support for Advanced GFL
(Required hostnames are based on the lockserver(s) in use by volumes)

    • arbiter-http-virginia.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-virginia.gfl.api.nasuni.com

    • arbiter-http-oregon.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-oregon.gfl.api.nasuni.com

    • arbiter-http-sydney.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-sydney.gfl.api.nasuni.com

    • arbiter-http-singapore.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-singapore.gfl.api.nasuni.com

    • arbiter-http-frankfurt.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-frankfurt.gfl.api.nasuni.com

    • arbiter-http-ireland.gfl.api.nasuni.com
      arbiter-ws-ireland.gfl.api.nasuni.com

  • Nasuni Portal API
    (Required for this upcoming feature)

    • am1.portal.api.nasuni.com

    • eu1.portal.api.nasuni.com

    • as1.portal.api.nasuni.com

This simple update will prepare your environment for a smooth transition to version 10.0!

2. Ensure Your OS Disk Size is 32 GiB on All Virtual Appliances

Version 10.0 requires at least 32 GiB (34.4 GB) of OS disk space to support updates and enhancements. You may have already seen this message during boot: “Nasuni recommends running the Edge Appliance with a main OS disk of 32 GiB. Please resize your OS disk to 32 GiB as this will become a requirement in a future version.”

If your OS disk is smaller than 32 GiB (this applies to all Nasuni appliance VMs – NEA, NMC, NFIQ), the update will not proceed. Don’t worry—it’s easy to check and increase the size by following your hypervisor vendor’s documentation. Click here for more information (requires login).

Please note that some hypervisors use “GB” to refer to what is “GiB” (Gibibytes). To verify your disk size, run a command that outputs the size in bytes and confirm it is equal to or greater than 34,359,738,368 bytes (32 GiB / 34.4 GB). Click here for sample commands.

This ensures your environment is ready for version 10.0 and future updates.

3. Upgrade to Hyper-V Server 2019 or later

If you’re using Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 or earlier to host Nasuni appliance VMs, please plan to upgrade to Hyper-V Server 2019 or later prior to the 10.0 update. Earlier versions of Hyper-V are incompatible with the Linux-based operating system in version 10.0.

Upgrading to a supported Hyper-V version ensures that your environment stays secure, stable, and fully compatible with Nasuni’s latest releases.

4. Update to NEA/NFIQ version 9.15.4+ and NMC version 24.1.4+

NEA/NFIQ version 9.15.4+ and NMC version 24.1.4+ must be installed as a prerequisite to version 10.0. You will not see 10.0 as an available update until you are running at least version 9.15.4 and 24.1.4.

Versions 9.15.4 and 24.1.4 are available now, so please plan to update your appliances as soon as possible.

Why Take Action?

Updating to Nasuni File Data Platform version 10.0 gives you access to the latest innovations, security updates, and features designed to enhance your file storage experience.

By following the steps above, you’ll be fully prepared to update seamlessly once version 10.0 is available, keeping your environment running smoothly.

Next Steps

  • Review your firewall settings and add the necessary hostnames.

  • Confirm that your OS disk size is at least 32 GiB (34.4 GB).

  • Upgrade any Hyper-V 2016 or earlier servers to Hyper-V 2019 or later.

  • Update your Nasuni appliances to version 9.15.4+ and 24.1.4+.

All Nasuni appliances (Nasuni Edge Appliance - NEA, Nasuni Management Console - NMC, and Nasuni File IQ - NFIQ) are subject to these requirements. Any appliances that do not meet these requirements cannot update to NEA/NFIQ version 10.0 and NMC version 25.1.
