Update to Nasuni Service Advisory 240314

Revised Timing for End-of-Software-Support / End-of-Life
Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016

Why am I receiving this?

In March 2024, we initially communicated the official End-of-Software Support / End-of-Life (EOL) for Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 and earlier versions in Nasuni Service Advisory 240314.  Since then, we have adjusted our timeline for Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016. There is no change to EOL for earlier Hyper-V versions (Hyper-V 2012 R2 and earlier).

The End-of-Software-Support / End-of-Life date for Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 will coincide with the release of Nasuni Edge Appliance (NEA) version 10.0 and Nasuni Management Console (NMC) version 24.2. The revised timing for these software releases is Q4 2024.

The reason for the end of life of Hyper-V 2016 is due to a Microsoft issue regarding Linux-based guest virtual machines (VMs) running on Hyper-V Servers prior to version 2019. This affects Nasuni’s modernization plans for updating the operating system underlying our platform. To address the issue, Nasuni appliances deployed on Hyper-V Server 2016 will not be able to upgrade to NEA version 10.0 and NMC version 24.2 when we begin the release of it in Q4 2024.  Accordingly, Nasuni will no longer be able to provide support for Nasuni appliances running on Hyper-V Server 2016 starting with NEA version 10.0 and NMC version 24.2.

Please note that Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and earlier is already EOL and will therefore be unsupported and unavailable for upgrade to our next major release, version 9.15.

Why is this important to me?

Your account has been identified as having one or more NEAs or your NMC running on Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2016 or earlier.

Upgrading your Hyper-V Server(s) to a supported version (Hyper-V Server 2019 or later) is required to help you to maintain continuity and stability in your environment. Upgrading will also help to ensure that any future Nasuni upgrades will be on supported versions of Hyper-V Server.

What Nasuni versions are affected?

All Nasuni appliances deployed on Hyper-V Server 2016 will be affected by this change. These appliances will not be able to upgrade to NEA version 10.0 and NMC version 24.2 in Q4 2024 if your Nasuni appliances remain on this Hyper-V Server version.

Nasuni appliances deployed on Hyper-V Server 2016 shall remain fully supported on supported versions of software (planned as NEA version 9.15 and NMC version 24.1 and earlier – please see Nasuni Compatibility and Support Information).

Do I need to take action?

Yes. You should implement plans to upgrade your Hyper-V Server environments to Hyper-V Server 2019 or later to prepare for NEA version 10.0 and NMC version 24.2, planned for release in Q4 2024.
