Volume Lists:
Overview
Volume Lists provides a centralized view of volumes, appliances, and their connections within your environment. Use Volume Lists to monitor protection status, view snapshot activity, manage connections, and quickly locate resources through filtering, search, and customizable table views.
Volume List Views
Volume Lists supports three different views to help you understand your environment from different perspectives:
Volumes View
Displays information organized by volume, including connected appliances, data protection metrics, and activity status.
Appliances View
Displays information organized by appliance, allowing you to view the volumes associated with each appliance and monitor related activity.
Flat View
Displays individual volume-to-appliance connections in a single table, providing a detailed view of all relationships without hierarchy.
Table Customization
Customize the information displayed in Volume Lists by:
Showing or hiding columns
Resizing columns
Sorting data by column values
Viewing additional connection details
Column preferences remain available while navigating between views during the same session.
Filtering and Search
Use filters and search to quickly locate specific volumes, appliances, or connections.
Available filtering options include:
Appliance
Cloud provider
Cloud region
Protocol
Role
Connection permissions
Security settings
Additional connection attributes
Search results are updated dynamically as you type and work together with active filters.
Connection Roles
Each volume is associated with one owner appliance and may have additional connected appliances.
Connection roles help identify:
Owner – The appliance that owns the volume.
Connected – Appliances that have access to the volume but do not own it.
Snapshot and Activity Monitoring
Volume Lists provides visibility into protection and activity status across your environment, including:
Snapshot activity
Last snapshot information
Protection status indicators
Connection health and warning states
Activity indicators help identify operations in progress, completed actions, and conditions that may require attention.
Bulk Actions
Select one or more connections to perform actions across multiple resources simultaneously.
Available actions include:
Take Snapshot
Sync
Disconnect (when applicable)
Bulk actions help streamline common administrative tasks.
Exporting Data
Export Volume List data to CSV format for reporting, analysis, or record-keeping purposes.
Pagination
Large environments are automatically organized into pages to improve performance and usability. Filtering, sorting, and search criteria are maintained as you navigate through results.
Empty States
When no data is available or when filters return no results, Volume Lists provides contextual guidance to help you adjust filters, refine searches, or learn how to create and connect volumes.
This structure is the level of abstraction I’d expect in customer documentation, with separate detailed sections later for Views, Filtering, Bulk Actions, and Activity Monitoring if you plan to create task-based documentation underneath it.
Volume Details:
Overview
The Volume Details page provides comprehensive information about a specific volume, including its configuration, connected appliances, data protection settings, storage details, access controls, and activity metrics. Use this page to understand how a volume is configured, monitor its health and protection status, and review the resources connected to it.

Create a Volume:
Overview
The Create Volume workflow allows administrators to create a new Nasuni volume and assign ownership to a managed Edge Appliance. During creation, administrators configure storage, access protocols, encryption settings, and data protection options to prepare the volume for use.
After creation, the volume becomes available for management within the Volumes section of the Nasuni Portal.
Before You Begin
Before creating a volume, ensure that:
A managed Edge Appliance is available and online.
Cloud storage credentials have been configured.
Appropriate permissions have been assigned to create and manage volumes.
Encryption requirements have been reviewed.
Select a Target Appliance
Begin by selecting the appliance that will own and manage the volume.
Only eligible online appliances are available for selection.
The selected appliance becomes the volume owner and is responsible for managing access and protection operations.
Configure Volume Properties
Provide basic information for the new volume, including:
Volume name
Network protocol
Permissions policy
The volume name uniquely identifies the volume within your environment and can be modified later if required.
Choose a Protocol
Select the protocol configuration that best matches your workload requirements.
Note: Protocol selection determines the available permissions and access configuration options.
SMB
Use SMB for Windows-based file access environments.
NFS
Use NFS for Linux and UNIX-based workloads.
Multiprotocol
Use Multiprotocol when both SMB and NFS clients require access to the same data set.
Note: Multiprotocol volumes are automatically created with case sensitivity enabled. This setting cannot be changed during creation.
Configure Object Storage
Select the cloud storage location where the volume data will be stored.
Configuration options include:
Cloud provider
Cloud credentials
Cloud region
Storage destination settings
The available configuration options vary depending on the selected cloud provider.
Copy Settings from an Existing Volume
To simplify deployment, you can copy configuration settings from an existing volume.
When copying settings:
Most volume configuration settings are pre-populated automatically.
The new volume requires a unique volume name.
Encryption settings must be configured separately.
All copied settings remain editable before creation.
This option is useful when creating volumes with similar configurations.
Configure Encryption
Encryption protects volume data and supports recovery operations.
Available options include:
Automatically Generate an Encryption Key
Generate a new encryption key during volume creation.
A copy of the generated key is automatically downloaded when the volume is created. Store this key securely, as it is required for disaster recovery and cannot be retrieved later.
Use an Existing Encryption Key
Select an existing encryption key available on the target appliance.
Upload an Encryption Key
Upload a previously generated encryption key for use with the volume.
Create Shares and Exports
By default, volume creation includes the ability to configure access resources such as:
SMB shares
NFS exports
FTP/SFTP directories
Access settings can be reviewed and modified during the creation process.
Data Protection
Configure protection settings for the volume, including:
Snapshot schedules
Retention settings
Auditing options
Additional protection policies
These settings help ensure that data is protected and recoverable.
Review and Create
Before creating the volume, review all configuration settings, including:
Appliance selection
Protocol settings
Storage configuration
Encryption settings
Access configuration
Protection policies
After validation completes successfully, select Create Volume to provision the new volume.
After Creation
Once the volume is successfully created:
The volume appears in the Volume Lists page.
A snapshot is initiated to establish initial protection.
The volume becomes available for further management and configuration.
Administrative actions are recorded in activity logs for auditing purposes.
