S3 Edge Bucket Restriction: S3 Edge now supports bucket-level access restrictions for S3 access keys. Administrators can assign granular permission roles to individual access keys on a per-bucket basis, enabling fine-grained access control. This enhancement improves multi-tenant security and data isolation while maintaining full backward compatibility.
Note: Existing buckets with no roles configured continue to work as before.
Improved Inline Encryption Performance: The optional inline encryption library introduced in release 9.3 is now enabled by default on all appliances. This library improves encryption and decryption performance, resulting in faster data protection (time to cloud) and faster retrieval of cloud data.
The front-end performance impact that previously made this library “opt-in” has been resolved. No additional action is required; existing and new appliances will automatically benefit from this change upon upgrading to 10.4.
Web Access Enhancements:
Bulk Delete Operation: You can now delete multiple files and folders, including nested files and folder content, with a single operation. Larger deletion jobs run in the background, so you can keep working without interruption.
Quick Access Menu: Account information, settings, and sign-out menu items are now available from the avatar icon in the top-right corner, making these actions easier to find and access.
Activity Tracking for Local Edit: A new activity view shows the status of files you’re working with in Local Edit, including uploads, downloads, completed actions, and items that may need attention. This provides you with greater visibility and confidence while using Local Edit.
Note: “Activity Tracking for Local Edit” is only available for Advanced Web Access.
Improved Oplock Performance: Improved file access responsiveness for workloads using AGFL-Opportunistic Locking with heavy read contention and occasional writes. The Lock Arbiter now directly notifies waiting clients when an oplock break completes, thus significantly reducing polling-related latency.
Expanded Support for Cache Striping at First Boot: Striping the cache across multiple disks allows Edge Appliances to exceed the performance or capacity limits of a single disk. Automatic cache disk striping at first boot now supports all hypervisors, including KVM, Xen, Nutanix, Scale, and AWS EC2, which were not supported in 9.3. GCP-based Edge Appliances do not yet support this feature. All devices must be the same size and present when the Edge Appliance boots for the first time.
Ransomware File System Data Collection (Opt-In Required): To better safeguard your data from ransomware attacks, Nasuni requests your permission to collect pseudonymized data on file system activity. Pseudonymization means that identifying details like file names, paths, and user information are replaced with consistent stand-in values before the data leaves your environment, so normal file system behavior can be modeled without exposing what the files actually are or who touched them. By allowing pseudonymized data collection, you’ll be contributing to the fight against ransomware and helping Nasuni improve your ransomware defenses and those of the entire Nasuni community. Your file system activity is pseudonymized before it's collected. Nasuni never collects the contents of your files, and all information is handled with strong security measures and respect for your privacy.
To participate in this research effort, please enable the service from the NMC-> Account Status page.

Issue 84926: Updated NMC disaster recovery backup handling to help prevent recovery failures caused by large backup bundles that exceed available disk space. Backup bundles now include the necessary information required to successfully recover an NMC. As a result, some charts and metrics might show temporary gaps in data.

Advanced Filtering Export (Premium): Integrated with Report Management, this feature enables exporting advanced metadata filtered results to a CSV file to support large-scale analysis, bulk remediation workflows, and third-party tool integration.

ACL Harvesting (Premium): File IQ 10.3 delivers ACL Harvesting, enabling scanning, indexing, and filtering of NTFS ALLOW permissions on AD/CIFS (NTFS-only) volumes. ACLs are searchable in Advanced Filtering, Volume Explorer, and Version Explorer, improving visibility into access controls and strengthening governance.
A one-time volume rescan is required and runs automatically during the upgrade.

NEA Cloud I/O Performance Improvements
This release introduces UniFS performance enhancements when transferring files to or from the cloud for protection and synchronization. These enhancements are most significant for large files (>100 MB) under Global File Locking (GFL).
Improvements of 60%-77% for large files under GFL.
Improvements of approximately 25% for non-GFL large files.
Web Access Enhancements
Office 365 Integration (View, Edit, and Collaborate): Web Access now leverages the native Microsoft 365 file viewer and editor, expanding preview capabilities and enabling seamless in-browser editing for modern Office file types. Changes are automatically saved back to the Edge Appliance. Multiple users can now collaborate on the same file with a native Microsoft 365 co-authoring experience.
Expanded Web Access Auditing: Web Access now records a broader set of file system activity with enhanced contextual detail to improve visibility, troubleshooting, and compliance reporting. Events are published to the core auditing stream and are exportable in CSV format. Newly tracked events include:
Shared links: create, access, delete.
Files: open/read, update, delete.
Folders: view/list, create, delete.
Authentication: login, logout.
Downloads: ZIP file downloads.
Download and Upload Improvements: The following enhancements improve performance, usability, and large file handling.
Uncapped download size: ZIP downloads are now streamed directly to the local machine, removing previous size limitations.
Preserved directory structure on upload: Folder uploads now maintain their original hierarchy instead of flattening files.
Web Access custom logos might need review after update: If you have previously applied a custom logo to Web Access via the NMC or the NEA UI, we recommend reviewing its appearance after updating to NEA 10.3 or NMC 26.1. Due to UI color and logo styling updates in this release, some logos might not display as clearly as before, particularly on darker backgrounds. If a change is needed, update the logo to a version that is better suited to the new styling, such as a lighter version or a transparent version.

Update – Lock Arbiter feature enabled automatically on update to NEA 10.3
Customers with a Multisite Collaboration (MSC) license who update any NEA to version 10.3 will have the Lock Arbiter feature automatically enabled at the account level. Once enabled, Lock Arbiter — which coordinates Advanced Global File Locking (Adv GFL) functionality — becomes active across all NEAs running version 10.0.2 or later that are deployed under the customer's account.
Lock Arbiter is also now enabled by default for all new Nasuni customers with MSC licenses. Refer to the Global File Locking section of the Nasuni Documentation to understand the Adv GFL feature, how to configure it in your Nasuni volumes, and usage best practices.

Issue 81369: Fixed an issue where appliance-generated certificates incorrectly appended subjectAltName to the subject distinguished name. The certificate generation process now correctly specifies subjectAltName using the x509v3 extension.
Issue 84319: Fixed an issue introduced in 10.2 where certain older volumes without an explicitly defined permissions policy were unable to connect to or disconnect from remote Edge Appliances.

Issue 81072: Addressed a rare race condition that could occur if data was written to a volume immediately after disaster recovery (DR) and before full initialization. This could result in snapshot failures and impact data protection.
Issue 81119: Fixed an issue where internal file system operation files were incorrectly flagged as unprotected data, resulting in inaccurate snapshot notifications.
Issue 85372: Fixed an issue where file operations on NFS volumes could fail with “permission denied” errors on certain Edge Appliances, despite permissions appearing correctly set. This was caused by an internal database limitation that led to inconsistent permission evaluation across appliances.
Issue 1419: Removed an internal metadata push failure notification that could cause unnecessary concern. These transient failures resolve automatically with the next snapshot and do not require action.
Data Propagation and GFL
Issue 81647: Improved connection handling to fix an issue where temporary exhaustion of internal traffic ports could cause sync and fault-in operations to fail on an Edge Appliance.
Issue 82053: Fixed on where certain file operations in GFL directories, such as writes and deletes, could fail if the directory or file had been renamed or moved.
Issue 82707: Resolved an issue with the lock arbiter that prevented access to files under GFL.

UniFS Change Log
UniFS has a new internal change logging capability that records file and directory changes within the file system. The change log, which is not currently customer-facing, enables Nasuni to track and respond to file system activity more accurately and lays the foundation for enhanced functionality across Nasuni products and tools.
For shared volumes, UniFS automatically enables change logging after all Edges connected to the volume have been updated to version 10.2.3 or later, ensuring consistent behavior across the environment. After enabling change logging on a shared volume, only NEAs running version 10.2.3 or later can connect to the volume.
For local volumes, UniFS automatically enables change logging after updating to version 10.2.3 or later.
Note: Nasuni manages change logging internally. Change logging requires no customer configuration. The change log does not contain file contents. Change logging does not affect file data, access controls, or user workflows.
Enhanced support for large NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS)
Nasuni now optionally supports NTFS Alternate Data Streams (ADS) larger than 64 KB (up to 1 MB), improving compatibility with data classification and security platforms such as Microsoft Purview and Stealthbits. This enhancement enables customers to preserve and manage extended file metadata more reliably, supporting compliance and security workflows without size-related limitations. New Disk Metric (IO Latency): A new IO Latency chart has been added to the Ops IQ Appliance dashboard for every disk, providing deeper visibility into disk performance. The chart reports read and write latency, serving as a key indicator of disk responsiveness. When viewed alongside IOPS and IO Time, IO Latency delivers a comprehensive set of metrics that help assess disk health and quickly identify performance bottlenecks.
Ops IQ API: We are introducing a comprehensive set of Portal APIs for Ops IQ telemetry, providing programmatic access to Ops IQ telemetry and data points. These APIs enable integration with external monitoring tools, custom dashboards, and automation workflows across your Nasuni environment.
