Overview
This chapter explains how to uninstall the Nasuni Edge Appliance from your supported platform. You might need to uninstall the Nasuni Edge Appliance if you are upgrading the system hardware.
Uninstalling the Nasuni Edge Appliance
For a high-availability Edge Appliance (HA Edge), there are several cases:
You can uninstall the standby or secondary node. If you uninstall the standby or secondary node, then the HA Edge is degraded, because the primary node cannot failover to the secondary node.
You can uninstall the active or primary node. If you uninstall the active or primary node, this triggers a failover to the standby or secondary node. Again, the HA Edge is degraded, because the new primary node (former secondary node) cannot failover to the secondary node.
VMware Platform
Caution: When you uninstall the Nasuni Edge Appliance, all data in the cache is deleted.
Caution: Always shut down the NEA or NMC before shutting down the VM.
Caution: Do not reboot or power off the appliance during the first boot. After the first boot completes, you may reboot or power off the appliance as needed.
To uninstall the Nasuni Edge Appliance on a VMware platform:
Shut down the Nasuni Edge Appliance from your Web browser. See the section entitled “Shutting Down and Rebooting Nasuni Edge Appliance” in the Nasuni Edge Appliance Administration Guide for instructions.
In particular, perform the following steps:
Disconnect remote volumes.
Delete owned volumes.
Important: This step does not apply to the standby node of an HA Edge appliance, because the NMC, NOC, and NEA UI all see the entire HA Edge appliance as a single NEA with one serial number and one Filer ID. Therefore, do not decommission the NEA, reset the configuration on the NEA, disconnect remote volumes, or delete owned volumes in order to remove the standby node.
However, if you are uninstalling the full HA Edge appliance (both nodes), then this step does apply.
Power down the Nasuni Edge Appliance from the VMware platform you are using.
Remove the virtual appliance from your VMware environment. For example, for VMware Server, select Remove Virtual Machine from the Virtual Machine menu. Using the vSphere Client, right-click the virtual machine and select Remove from Inventory from the drop-down menu.
If you need more information, see your VMware platform documentation.
